Crush & Brisk is the brainchild of John and Frances Needham. Both long-time lovers of wine, particularly a passion for the complexity of Blanc de Noirs. This is their first deep dive into the world of production, enlisting the help of Blackbook as their collaborator. Crush and Brisk’s core focus is creating ethereal and quality-driven sparkling wines.
The 2019 pinot noir grapes were sourced from Shotley vineyard, nestled in the protected Shotley peninsula of the Suffolk coast. The grapes were whole bunch pressed, settled overnight, and fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks for 8 months. The wine was bottled and aged on lees in bottle for a minimum of 4 years.
We are proud to have been part of this amazing project and to support John and Francis on their journey.
Optimal Drinking window: 2026-2032
Total production size: 100 cases
Disgorged: November 2023
Dosage: 5g/L
“This stunning sparkler possesses more character and flair than an ocean of Champagnes, and it nails the elite Blanc de Noirs brief with aplomb. Drinking beautifully, with complex florals and cherry stone highlights, this is a glorious wine with a pulse-racing perfume and a sensational, dry, drama-soaked finish.” Matthew Jukes
2022 Blackbook ‘Controversy’ Pinot Meunier
Grown in Sussex, just 35 miles from our winery, the grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard. Whole bunch pressed and fermented using indigenous yeast in old burgundy barrels. The wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation and aged for a total of 7 months with frequent lees stirring. Our pinot meunier is a delicate interpretation of the variety lending itself to aromas of raspberry, mandarin peel, red floral notes, grapefruit, with hints of citrus zest, and dried cranberry.
100 cases produced.
“It is sensational, challenging, rare and unmissable and I feel that is like finding a missing page in the encyclopedia of wine.” Matthew Jukes, (2019 Vintage)
NB Delivery charge of £10 to UK mainland applies to orders under minimum quantities or outside local delivery zone. Full details at checkout.
